Elmander ready to start scoring

Elmander has often been pilloried over his lack of goals following his big-money arrival from Toulouse 20 months ago.Bolton splashed out a club record £10million on the Swede, and so far he has repaid them with a meagre nine goals in 54 appearances.Prior to that, Elmander had scored 22 goals for Toulouse and also Brondby in 64 and 58 games respectively. He also has a more favourable ratio of 11 goals in 38 games for Sweden, including Wednesday night's winner in the 1-0 victory over Wales in Swansea.Elmander said: "It will do a lot for me."It is always nice to score because there has been a lot in the press that I am not scoring very much."In the beginning it did bother me, but not any more. I am too old to think about it."Now I hope I can take it with me back to Bolton and start scoring for them as well."In terms of scoring goals it has been a difficult season, but I think I have been playing well."But for a striker in the Premier League you always have to score, otherwise people start to say you are not a good striker."Elmander has just four goals to his credit for Bolton this season, with his last in the league on December 5 in a 2-1 loss at Wolves, a blank run of nine matches. The 28-year-old, though, has the full support of Bolton manager Owen Coyle."Because he came with a big reputation and big transfer fee, he has had greater emphasis placed upon him," said Coyle."I told him from day one that what has happened has no effect or bearing on my judgement. I will judge him on what I see."When he plays he works his socks off, he gives you everything he has got."He has that quality to score goals as well, along with his other attributes, and he showed that last night for Sweden. It was such a composed finish."So I retain that belief in Johan, he retains his own belief, and when that Premier League goal goes in for him, the rest will follow on the back of that."Coyle then joked: "I might tell him to wear his Sweden top underneath his Bolton one!"But he is a quality player, a lovely man, and I love working with him."The feeling of respect is mutual as Elmander has been impressed with Coyle since he took charge at the Reebok Stadium in early January.Bolton grabbed a vital victory over Wolves at the weekend, with Elmander convinced Coyle will steer the club clear of relegation."He's great, really good," enthused Elmander."After winning the last game against Wolves everyone is feeling good. It was an important win for us."Now we have some key games coming up - West Ham, Sunderland and Wigan - and I hope we can keep going like this."They are the teams with us down near the bottom of the league, so we need to get results."Of course we believe in ourselves, and I think we are going to make it."Bolton, though, will have to do without Stuart Holden for the next six weeks after the midfielder fractured his right fibula in the United States' 2-1 friendly defeat by Holland last night.
