Tough times the making of LIverpool FC star Lucas

LUCAS believes the traumas Liverpool have suffered this season have been key to helping him develop into a first team regular. The Brazilian midfielder has played in every Premier League game this season and, in recent months, has been one of the Reds' most consistent performers. But despite never hiding when results have gone against Liverpool and working tirelessly for the team, Lucas still finds a significant number of fans sceptical of his ability. He is now used to the criticism that comes his way but that does not mean for a moment Lucas is fine with the situation - far from it.If anything there have been times when it has led him to question whether he made the right choice when picking Liverpool after he left Gremio in May 2007.Happily, though, Lucas has battled on and is now in no doubt that he can play a role in helping Liverpool push for the Champions League - starting at Wigan on Monday.'It's been a very difficult time both for the team and for me,' said Lucas. 'I know a lot of people have been unhappy with my performances, particularly at the start of the season.'The team wasn't doing well and results were bad. But I've learned a lot more about myself and become a stronger person and player. It has made me desperate to prove people wrong.'There have been times (in the past) when I thought I may have made the wrong decision but now I am sure that I have made the right one.'My game has changed a lot since leaving Brazil. I was able to attack more at Gremio because I played with two defensive midfielders, In England you have more responsibility.'I still think I have some work to do if all the fans are going to believe in me. I'm happy and I feel I'm improving. But it isn't about me, it's about the club doing well.'
