Man City midfielder Johnson arrested over alleged headbutt on United fan

Manchester City star Michael Johnson has been arrested by police after a United fan claimed he had been headbutted in a nightclub.Midfielder Johnson was interviewed by Greater Manchester Police after a 22-year-old claimed he had been attacked in 42nd Street in the city's Bootle Street.Police contacted City after the complaint was made and arranged an appointment for the 22-year-old to attend Grey Mare Lane station, close to Eastlands. Sidelined: Johnson has hardly played this season due to injuryJohnson was then arrested on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm and bailed until March 18.Johnson has been out of action since damaging knee ligaments in training on December 10 last year. The alleged incident happened four days earlier.It is understood a group of United fans were singing Red Devils songs and one of them approached Johnson.The fan, also 22, claims he was then headbutted, knocked to the ground and kicked while he was down.The supporter left the club and stopped a police officer to report the alleged incident.A spokesman for GMP said: 'Just after 1am on Sunday December 6, 2009, a patrol car was flagged down and an officer was told a man had been assaulted. Tough task: Johnson, at training on Monday, is a long way off a recovery'The 22-year-old reported that he had been assaulted in 42nd Street nightclub.
