Estadio Beira-Rio - World Cup 2014

The Estadio Beira-Rio was opened in 1969 with a friendly between Internacional and Benfica. Initial construction of the venue began over a decade earlier after Internacional enjoyed a period of success and the stadium became too small. Extensive redevelopment of the stadium began once the venue was selected to host a number of World Cup 2014 games.
