McCoist proud of defensive record

Only Braga and Barcelona boast a stronger rearguard than the Scottish champions so far this season - making them the toughest team in Britain to break down."It does surprise me, I must admit it," said McCoist."It's a real compliment to all of the team that we are not losing as many goals as other teams."But McCoist is not convinced the efforts of David Weir and Madjid Bougherra is the only reason Rangers are 10 points clear of Celtic in the title race."I'm not sure I would say that is the difference," he said."You could look at both sides and say there are differences."What I would say is that, at this moment in time, we are thrilled with the way the boys have been defending."I wouldn't talk about other teams defensively but we've got to be very pleased at the way our boys have been defending recently."McCoist will be hoping for another clean sheet when Rangers host St Mirren in Thursday night's Scottish Cup replay. And he knows goals will also be crucial against a side who held the holders to a goalless draw at the first time of asking. He said: "I saw St Mirren against Hearts in the League Cup and I thought they were tremendous and thoroughly deserved their win."I saw them against Dundee United on Saturday and cannot believe they lost the game."Obviously I saw them in the first game against us and they are good, they are organised and you know exactly what you are going to get from St Mirren."The boys play really well and Gus has got them organised and determined. The two boys up front are a handful for anybody. They are a team that's difficult to play against and beat."
