Brown annoyed by disallowed goal

Tom Hateley handed the Steelmen the lead in the first half before Kris Boyd rescued a point for the Ibrox side with an equaliser 10 minutes from time. But, in between those goals, Ross Forbes could also have had his name on the scoresheet when he helped a netbound Stephen Craigan effort over the line only to see the strike disallowed for offside.Television footage suggested assistant referee John Gilmour made the wrong call and, although reluctant to criticise the match official, Brown did feel it cost his side maximum points. He said: "I've always been an advocate of not criticising the officials so I won't do that - certainly not publicly. I've seen the TV evidence which would indicate the goal was okay."But the officials have got jobs to do and they do them honestly. Unfortunately we didn't get the goal, which I think would have finished the game because we were very comfortable at that point."I was told that both Craigan and Forbes were onside but I don't want to be a moaner and a complainer. You get some decisions and some you don't. We didn't get that one but we might get one in the next game. We just have to accept it."Boyd - who made his first start since recovering from a double hernia operation - netted with just 10 minutes to go to rescue a point for a lacklustre Rangers side.Brown added: "We've got to fault ourselves because we gifted the goal to Rangers. It was indecision between the goalie John Ruddy and Mark Reynolds."That's our fault and we can't blame anyone but ourselves for conceding the goal. You don't give Kris Boyd a chance like that and expect to get away with it."When asked his opinion of the disallowed goal, Rangers boss Walter Smith pointed out that his own side also had a strike chalked off at the same venue back in November 2008 with that match also ending all square."They say the boy was onside," he said of Forbes' effort."But, if I can remember correctly we had one knocked off here before with Kris Boyd. Sometimes they go for you and sometimes they go against you. I think we would have won that game if we'd got it so it balances out."The draw means Rangers now have an eight-point lead at the summit of the SPL, with Celtic's win over Hearts allowing them to edge closer to the title holders.Smith added: "We are pleased to come back to level terms in the second half of the game and I thought on the balance of the game overall, it was probably the proper result."Ourselves and Motherwell have probably had the best record in the league over the last half-dozen games or so and we would expect a tough game."
