Late goals and some upset managers

There were some late goals in the second set of Easter fixtures and what an effect it had on some of the Championship managers as points were lost in the closing stages. We know Sean Dyche was unhappy at the timing of the award of Nottingham Forest's penalty at Turf Moor but down at Ashton Gate, in a relegation battle between Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday there was even more fury. Wednesday had led with a first half goal from Jermaine Johnson but were denied victory when Sam Baldock struck in the third minute of stoppage time, the award of which left Dave Jones in a rage. Two goals for Wade Elliott He fumed: "Chris Kirkland has been hit in the face by their lad (Marvin Elliott) going up for the cross and if it's anywhere else on the pitch, it's a free kick. It's a forearm smash. "We had taken everything City could throw at us and all you ask is a fair deal from the match officials. We have had trouble with this referee before. If he had done his job we would be going home with three points, but I get tired of saying this sort of thing." The referee was a Mr Darren Deadman who also took his Easter total of yellow cards to sixteen in two games. Bristol City are our next opponents and their boss Sean O'Driscoll said after the game: "Six more performances like that will do me, whatever the outcome of our season." Dyche upset, Jones upset, but what about Neil Warnock at Leeds. He'd seen his side go a goal up against Leeds just around the time Junior Stanislas scored for us. They didn't hold on either but they conceded twice with Derby's winner coming on 88 minutes. It was all too much for Warnock. He decided that their play off hopes were at an end and walked away from his tenth job. Will it be his last? He says not. Time will tell but he'll struggle to get another job at this level now I would think. It ended a weekend for him that started with a row at Ipswich with Mick McCarthy to him being the 15th Championship manager to leave his job this season, and I've not included the succession of caretakers at Ewood. On the subject of our close neighbours. They are still just a win from their game in hand of going level with us on points but they are fast running out of goalkeepers. Paul Robinson and Jake Kean are both out for the season. Robinson has suffered some serious respiratory complications following a back operation. He's developed a pulmonary embolism in his lung and will be out for at least six months. Kean has suffered a torn cartilage and is expected to be fit for the start of next season. Kean came of injured during their 3-0 defeat at Cardiff. His replacement was Pole Grzegorz Sandomierski who was making his debut. Another of the strugglers to lose a player with injury are Wolves. They'll have to play the remainder of the season without the services of leading goalscorer Sylvan Ebanks-Blake who sustained a broken fibula in the win against Birmingham. Birmingham lost the game 3-2 but both of their goals were scored by Wade Elliott, his first brace since getting two for Burnley in a 3-3 draw against Cardiff in September 2005. In the big game of the day a Troy Deeney goal gave free scoring Watford a 1-0 win at Hull. It's taken them within a point of Hull in second place with a trip to Cardiff to look forward to this weekend. As for the relegation issues; it's so hard to call now. Incredibly, Birmingham, who are in 11th place, are only five points clear of the bottom three. That means there should be some real concern at Turf Moor but I do still believe one win will do it.
