Ward keen to prove critics wrong
After slipping into the relegation zone with just two points from their last six games, the 24-year-old Dubliner knows that Wolves survival hopes are already being written off in some quarters.But he insists there is no "doom and gloom" at Molineux and that there is still a strong belief in the camp that Wolves can win their fight for survival.Ward, who needed a pain killing injection in his knee to face Birmingham last Sunday, is hopeful that Mick McCarthy's men can complete a league double over the Londoners having won 1-0 at White Hart Lane earlier in the season.He said: "Obviously, Tottenham are a big side."But we turned them over down there and there is no reason why we can't do it here."We are in the bottom three and people are already going to be writing us off as one of the main relegation candidates so, we in a sense, we have nothing to lose."We are going to go out there and fight with every ounce in our body and be asadventurous as we can be to get out of this relegation zone."We still feel that we have got every chance. It is so tight at the bottom. It is probably as tight as it has been for years."There are six or seven, maybe eight sides that could all be dragged into a tough relegation battle."Wolves have failed to pick up a victory in the league since beating Burnley on December 20 and Ward added:"We know what a difference a win can make.If we had beaten Birmingham on Sunday it would have sent us right up the table."We may be in the relegation zone but, because it is so tight, we all know what one win can do for you."We are finding it tough getting a win at the moment but once we do get it then it will be all to play for."So there is no doom and gloom here and we are looking to get a positive result against Tottenham and if we do then we could find ourselves outside the relegation zone.The 24-year-old admits that any points his side can secure in their next few games could prove to be crucial."Hopefully we can now get a few decent results under our belt and kick on coming into a vital period," he said."The next three home games against Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea are going to be tough."But after that we have got a run where we would hope to take points in those games."
