Thommo's easy decision

Striker Steven Thompson has commited his future to Saints by signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until at least the end of next season. The fans' favourite's old deal had been due to expire in the summer but he has today signed on for another year - with an option for it to be extended by a further year. The lifelong Buddie has described it as the "easiest football decision I've ever had to make" and his fellow supporters are delighted he is staying on. Since arriving from Burnley in 2011 Thompson has hit 30 goals, including the winner against Celtic in last month's League Cup Final. It's easily the most prolific spell of his career - not bad for a 34-year-old! Today's contract is fantastic news for the club and hopefully the first of many contract extensions to be handed out, with the likes of Craig Samson, Paul McGowan and Gary Teale all currently free to leave in the summer.
