A Look At The Weekend Action

Barnsley march on into the FA Cup Fifth Round……… ……but last minute league goals for Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City leave Reds joint bottom and seven points from safety. After successive 1-0 victories Barnsley are one of only four teams yet to concede a goal in this season’s competition along with Blackburn, Wigan and Manchester City This win at the KC Stadium, their first there since 2006 and only their second ever at that particular ground saw them win away from home in the FA Cup for the first time since the famous victory at Liverpool in 2008. Barnsley have now lost just one of their five games under David Flitcroft and none of the last four. It is their longest unbeaten run in 13 months. They have won three of those five and kept three clean sheets. Before this they had gone 14 matches since their last shut out. Under Flitcroft The Reds have conceded in the first half just once- in his first match, the 2-1 defeat at Peterborough. Before this, Barnsley had conceded in the first half in nine of the previous 10 matches.
