Reds Draw Clarets In Cup

Home tie to kick off the FA Cup campaign. Barnsley and Burnley who played out a 1-1 draw at Oakwell only five days ago will meet again in South Yorkshire after being drawn together in the Third Round of the 2012-2013 FA Cup. It is the second year in a row that The Reds have been drawn at home in the Third Round, but they have not progressed past this stage, and indeed have not won an FA Cup tie since the famous 1-0 victory over Chelsea four years ago. Burnley have fallen at the Third Round hurdle three times in the last six years, including last season when they lost 4-1 at Norwich City. They, like The Reds have won the famous old trophy just once, and it came two years after Harry Tufnell fired Barnsley to victory. They have also been runners-up on a further two occasions in 1947 and 1962. The two sides have met once before in the FA Cup, back in 1910-11, Burnley won 2-0 but Barnsley bounced back to win the competition the following season. They met in the League Cup two years ago with Barnsley triumphing 3-2 at Oakwell. Burnley have also only won one of their last 17 visits to the home of The Reds. The tie is set to be played on Saturday 5th January 2013.
