Manchester United set to rekindle interest in Robert Lewandowski

Manchester United will rekindle their interest in Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski, after recent reports that the Polish striker has refused to sign a contract extension with the German Champions, according to the The Mirror. Last summer Sir Alex Ferguson was keen on spending 16 million pound on the burly Pole but decided to spend 24 million on Robin van Persie instead – a move that has seemingly turned out to be quite a coup for Manchester United. However, Robert Lewandowski's future has been thrown into doubt with Bortussia Dortmund. The striker is under contract until 2014 but has reportedly put talks over a new deal on hold. Fergie is still a long-term admirer of Lewandowski and is believed to be contemplating a move for the forward as early as January – although the summer window seems more feasible.Dortmund chief executive Aki Watzke said: 'We will sit down and discuss what to do next if Robert does not extend his contract.”Although the Man United camp may be interested, they will be disheartened with what Lewandowski recently had to say regarding a future move to Manchester United. He told the The Mirror, on the 15th of October; “ I didn't even know Sir Alex Ferguson was in the stands against City but it wouldn't influence me at all. I haven’t got plans to change clubs.”At just the age of 24, the Pole would be an ideal signing for a young, attacking Manchester United side. However, with the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie guaranteed a spot week in and week out, along with the likes of 'super-sub' Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck knocking on the door for the first team – will Lewandowski be one striker too many for the Manchester club?
