Npower Championship Matchday Twelve: Barnsley v Crystal Palace

Match Preview Team News: The Reds have been dealt a major blow with the news top scorer Craig Davies has been ruled out for anything from two to six weeks with a hamstring injury he picked up in the final minute of the 1-0 victory at Charlton on Saturday. Marlon Harewood is likely to step into the breach and partner Chris Dagnall up front, although there has been good news for the club, with Mido scoring for the Development Squad on his return from injury. Midfielder Stephen Dawson- another key performer in recent weeks- is rated at only 50-50 due to a groin problem and a touch of flu. Jim McNulty, Martin Cranie, Toni Silva and Jim O’Brien are all still ruled out but Irish winger O’Brien is back in training after his shoulder operation. The Eagles will probably think it should be seven victories, as on Saturday they threw away a 2-0 lead to draw with Millwall. That comeback defeat was a surprise for Dougie Freedman’s side, as they have become the masters of coming from behind to snatch the points. During this current run, they have come from 1-0 down to defeat Wolves, 2-0 down to defeat Cardiff 3-2 and from 3-0 down to see off Burnley 4-3. The Eagles have though been hit with some off-field turmoil in the last 24 hours after the club gave Bolton Wanderers permission to speak to manager Freedman about their vacancy caused by the sacking of Owen Coyle, and it is yet unknown as to whether the 38 year old will be in the opposition dugout at Oakwell tomorrow night. It is no surprise that there is interest in the former Wolves and Leeds striker, as after losing their first three league matches of the season, he has guided Palace unbeaten in the eight since. Palace have netted 20 goals in their 11 matches, only Burnley (22) have scored more and the South London side have scored in every league and cup match so far in 2012-2013. Barnsley on the other hand have netted just 13 times- a figure distorted by the 5-0 thrashing of Birmingham, which is the only time they have netted more than once in a league match this season. But, whilst the Eagles are soaring at one end of the field they are also shipping goals at the other end. The 19 they have conceded in the league is the most out of the top 14 teams, and four more than The Reds. They have though made their best start to a season in 11 years. Their points haul of 20 points from 11 matches is their best since they took 24 from 11 in 2001-2002. After the fine 1-0 win at Charlton at the weekend, Barnsley are looking to secure back to back victories for the first time since December 2011, when ironically they followed up victory at Peterborough by a home victory over Palace. The Reds are unbeaten in their last six meetings with Palace at Oakwell, stretching back to 2002, winning four, including the last two. Palace have won just two of their last 13 visits, but are aiming for a fourth successive win on the road.  On This Day: Barnsley: Played: 17, Won: 5, Drawn 4, Lost 8, Scored 24, Conceded 27.
