Conway takes positives from draw

Conway's clinical strikes put United 3-1 up with less than half an hour gone after Kilmarnock defender Simon Ford had cancelled out Prince Buaben's opener. But goals from Kevin Kyle, Manuel Pascali and Craig Bryson turned the game on its head and United needed Jon Daly's 66th-minute penalty to secure a 4-4 draw and a point. The thriller followed Wednesday's 3-3 home draw against St Johnstone when Peter Houston's men came from two goals down before conceding a late equaliser.Conway said: "I suppose once you go down 4-3 it's a good thing getting back into it, but it feels like a defeat because we should have got three points."We've scored seven goals and only got two points out of it. We just basically need to defend better because that was four goals from set-pieces. It's not like us but we will work on that."But it's a hard place to come and we've scored four goals so we will take the positives from it."For the second game running, United went into the dressing room to discover that Hibernian, their rivals for third spot, had scored a late winner. This time St Mirren defender Jack Ross put through his own net to give Hibs a 2-1 victory but Conway is confident they can still challenge the Edinburgh side. And United strengthened their grip on a top-four position despite dropping two points."I heard it was a last-minute own goal," Conway said."But we can't control what happens there."Easter Road is a hard place to go so we weren't really expecting St Mirren to get anything."We will just worry about ourselves. We beat Hibs convincingly a couple of weeks ago. We will just wait and look to win our home games."It's a hard place to come and we got a point. And I suppose with Hearts and Aberdeen losing, it's a point gained on them."Calderwood bemoaned the individual mistakes that contributed to United's goals but he viewed their goalscoring breakthrough after a five-game barren spell in the SPL as a "massive boost".Calderwood took a risk when he replaced midfielder Gavin Skelton with striker Conor Sammon just after Conway's second."I have been doing that for 10 years," he said."We had to go for it, we were 3-1 down. I think it changed the game, with Conor's power and strength up there."They showed a lot of character when they were 3-1 behind."Calderwood, who has had Watford defender Rob Kiernan on trial with a view to a loan deal, is "very" hopeful of adding more than one player to his squad before the transfer deadline. And he expects Kyle to be in his squad for Tuesday's visit of Celtic despite interest in the Scotland striker."There are always enquiries," Calderwood added.
