Moses-less Magpies struggle to see off Foxes

NEWCASTLE UNITED failed to see off ten-man Leicester City but their bid for the Premier League remains on track. The Magpies stuttered to a draw at the Walkers Stadium which lifts them three points clear of second placed Nottingham Forest, who lost at Derby. Newcastle boss Chris Hughton, who is braced to lose out to Wigan for Crystal Palace striker Victor Moses before Monday's deadline, was left frustrated by his team's inability to find a winner. And had Leicester not been a man down for an hour after the sending off of midfielder Richie Wellens, who was handed two bookings, the fiery Foxes are likely to have won. Instead neither side did enough to seriously boost their promotion chances, but they both kept their charge for the Premier League on course. The game had struggled for life up until Wellens' dismissal, when he was shown the red for a pull on Wayne Routledge moments after a dangerous tackle on Alan Smith. And although Nile Ranger might have had a goal ruled out for offside in the closing stages, Leicester were unfortunate not to have nicked a winner themselves. LEICESTER CITY (4-5-1): Weale; Morrison, Brown, Hobbs, Berner; Waghorn (Howard 72), King, Oakley, Wellens, Gallagher (Dyer 66); Fryatt (Solano 84). Subs: Nielson, McGivern, Logan, N'Guessan. NEWCASTLE UNITED (4-4-2): Harper; Taylor, Coloccini, Williamson, Van Aanholt; Routledge, Smith (Ranger 62), Butt, Guthrie; Nolan (Pancrate 75); Carroll. Subs: Hall, Lovenkrands, Gutierrez, Krul, Kadar.
