Stoke boss Tony Pulis is expecting a hard battle when his side face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Monday.
The Potters have started 2010 in fine form with three victories and a draw since the turn of the year, while Sunderland have seen their winless run in the Barclays Premier League extend to nine matches.
Steve Bruce's side have looked a soft touch in recent weeks, but they have lost only twice at home all year and Pulis is prepared for a tough encounter against the Wearsiders.
"I've watched Sunderland now twice and I'll pick the team that will hopefully be strong enough to compete," Pulis said.
"They are a very physical side and have got good ability as well, so it is important that we match them.
"We will pick a team that will go up there, compete and hopefully get us three points."
