Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini ready to wait for new boy Patrick Vieira

Roberto Mancini insists Patrick Vieira still has a key role to play in Manchester City's season, even though the Frenchman must wait at least another week for his debut. Vieira, 33, sits out tomorrow's home game against Portsmouth with a calf injury, meaning he will have missed six games since signing from Inter Milan on a pay-as-you-play deal earlier this month. Wait and see: Patrick Vieira will not be rushed back into action Mancini believes City will reap the long-term benefit by resisting the temptation to rush him back. He said: 'Patrick is very unlucky because the last game he played with Inter (against Chievo) he was the best player on the pitch, but he got a kick on the calf. 'We don't want to risk Patrick because when he starts playing I want him to play for a long time. He can be very important for us.' Meanwhile, City are believed to be close to acquiring 40 acres of land close to Eastlands. Plans are at a very early stage, but it could be used to extend the stadium in future, re-locate the club's training ground, or build a hotel and restaurant complex.
