Rovers defender happy to be back

The 23-year-old former Leeds trainee has suffered several setbacks in his recovery from a dislocated knee and had played his last game at Leyton Orient in April 2008 before ending his exile with a late substitutes' appearance in the midweek home defeat to Middlesbrough.McDaid told the club's official website: "It's been a long time coming but I'm glad I've got an appearance in the Championship finally under my belt. It's been a hard 18-20 months."I'm delighted to get back on the pitch. Half of them probably didn't know who I was to be honest, it's been that long so I didn't know what kind of reception I'd get."But when I was warming up a lot of fans gave me a standing ovation and that's something that will always stay with me and I thank the fans for that because sometimes when you've been out for so long you don't know if they'll stick by you whatever."It was the worst time of my life. I've never experienced anything like it. It was 18-20 months, I've had three operations and got back twice and had setbacks and there were times when I wondered if I'd ever get back."
