Manchester United winger Zoran Tosic joins Cologne on loan

The Serbian winger, a £7m signing from Partizan Belgrade last January, has been loaned out by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson after failing to make a single Premier League start for the club since his arrival. Tosic, 22, has been a regular goalscorer for the reserve team this season, but his inability to make the breakthrough at United has fuelled doubts over his long-term prospects at Old Trafford.  Related ArticlesFerdinand leaves United punch drunkGiggs: winning trophy better than beating CityMancini: Manchester must not look back in angerPolice arrest three more ahead of Carling Cup semiFerdinand to miss Manchester derbyMan Utd v Man City: match previewBut after rejecting loan moves to FC Twente, Sporting Lisbon and Olympiakos, Tosic has signed for Cologne insisting that he can still make the grade at United. Tosic said: 'I believe I haven't had my final say at Manchester United and that my performances with Cologne will be my ticket back to Old Trafford.' Tosic's agent, Zoran Pavlovic, has claimed that United rejected offers to sell the player, preferring instead to delay their judgement on his prospects at the club. Pavlovic said: 'There were some offers to buy out Tosic's contract, but Manchester United were unwilling to go for that option. 'Sir Alex Ferguson is obviously counting on him in the future, but for now, Tosic has been sent out on loan.' Cologne manager Zvonimir Soldo insists that the Bundesliga strugglers, who defeated champions Wolfsburg in their last outing, will give Tosic the first-team football he requires ahead of the World Cup with Serbia this summer. Soldo said: 'He is a technically established player, is good on the offensive and can play in a number of positions. He will feature for first team action just like anyone else at Cologne.'
