Gary Neville grows up at last! United firebrand puts Tevez spat behind him

As Liverpool fans will attest, Gary Neville is normally not one to shirk a grudge. The normally volatile Manchester United firebrand neglected to mention his midweek touchline spat with Carlos Tevez in his weekly column for the Times of Malta. After scoring the first of two goals during Tuesday's 2-1 Carling Cup win for Manchester City at Eastlands, an adrenaline-fuelled Tevez darted in Neville's direction, hurling insults aplenty in his mother tongue.Included among them was 'tarado', an adjective that, rather like Tevez, struggles to be understood in English ('boot-lickingmoron' appears to be the general idea). Neville duly responded with a finger gesture understood the world over, and kaboom. 'At the time of writing, everyone is talking about our matches againstManchester City on Wednesday and.' Neville penned in the Maltese press. Surely he was building up to a trademark bile-fuelled riposte to that upstart Carlito?'Arsenal in the league the followingSunday, but we have a match before that against Hull City and we arefocusing on that,' he concludes. Clash of cultures: Neville and Tevez face off 'We controlled the match for 40 minutes until conceding a penalty which,to be fair, shouldn't have been a penalty. I think the replays provedthe decision was wrong and everyone could see it, but that goal justbefore half-time lifted City a little bit,' Neville Neville's oldest son continued. With extra police set for the return leg at Old Trafford on Wednesday, Neville was keen to tell supporters to play their part during the mouthwatering clash.'The atmosphere was very good last Tuesday. All Manchester derbies havea great atmosphere and Wednesday will be no different at our ground.'Our fans never let us down in the important matches and they will bewell up for it on Wednesday. It will be a great environment to playfootball in,' said Neville. PATRICK COLLINS: Carlos Tevez and Gary Neville must be wary of playing up to football's lunatic fringe PIERS MORGAN: Surely it's time somebody put the awful Gary Neville out of his miseryIAN RIDLEY: Forget Neville and Tevez, cocky Cook is the real villain hereDES KELLY: Cool it, Tev and Nev - and that can't get lost in translation
