Vale held to draw by battling Silkmen

The visitors were forced to defend for their lives in the first half as Vale piled forward.Recent loan signing Craig Davies, making his full debut for the hosts, was thwarted on several occasions by Jon Brain. And the former Vale stopper also made a fine save to keep out a 20-yard effort from Marc Richards.Macclesfield made a better fist of it at the start of the second half with Ricky Sappleton and Lee Bell finally providing a threat. But Davies was inches away from opening the scoring in the 58th minute when he beat Nat Brown with a terrific piece of skill and then cracked a shot against the bar.Neither side seriously threatened a breakthrough after that, with the visitors retreating back into their shell and Vale unable to find a way through.
