Sunderland make offer £1.5m for Aston Villa's misfit defender Beye

Northern return: Former Newcastle defender Habib Beye set for Sunderland switch after failing to settle at VillaSunderland have made a £1.5million bid for Aston Villa defender Habib Beye.The former Newcastle full back has failed to settle at Villa since his summer switch from Tyneside when he turned down a move to the Stadium of Light. Sunderland manager Steve Bruce, who concluded a £2m deal forSheffield United's Matt Kilgallon on Thursday, sees the 32-year-oldSenegal international as the solution to his problem at right back. Sunderland have also been offered the chance to sign Egyptianmidfielder Mohamed Nagy. Beye, who joined Newcastle in a £2m deal twoyears ago, has played only five Premier League games for Martin O'Neill. Villa have expressed an interest in Rangers striker Kris Boyd but any deal would not take place until the summer.
