Cherries: Moles admits defeat in battle over injury

GUTTED Mark Molesley's season is in tatters after the Cherries star admitted his desperate attempts to avoid an operation had ended in failure. The former non-league player is set to go under the knife in Southampton tomorrow in a bid to repair a stress fracture in his left foot. Midfielder Molesley has tried everything possible to save his season, having donned an air-cast boot before pushing on with a rehabilitation programme during the past few weeks, despite doctors offering to operate almost a month ago. But after exhausting all the other available options, Molesley received the news he had feared when he visited a specialist in London on Monday. The original operation he was due to have would have ruled him out for the season, but Molesley is hoping tomorrow's procedure could give him a slim chance of featuring again this term. However, the 28-year-old admits that is unlikely and his continued absence will come as a big blow to Cherries. Now I'm going to have this operation there is an outside chance they might be able to do not such a big procedure, so there is still a little bit of hope, the crowd favourite told the Echo. There is a little glimmer of hope but it's not great. That's why I haven't had it already. I could've had it straight away but have tried every way to avoid it, but I've got to bite the bullet now. I tried the boot, crutches, and this and that, but I've run out of options so I'm going to have to have the operation. This is my lowest point in football because it has followed my biggest high. We stayed up last season and now we're sitting at the top of the league after a good start. I'm going from the best football has ever been for me and now it's not there and there's nothing I can do about it. Scans on the likeable Londoner's injury in late December revealed there had been no improvement with the injury, but after putting off the operation in a bid to save his season, Molesley has had to eventually concede defeat, albeit reluctantly. He added: I decided not to have that operation straight away because I wanted to get other opinions on it. I've got those opinions now. It was a bit later because of Christmas and the weather because one (specialist) was in Southampton and one in London, so it was quite hard getting to see those people. I've seen both now and I'm sorting out what's the best route forward because nothing has changed, it hasn't healed itself and I need an operation.
