Philippe Senderos asks for more time: Arsenal defender not ready to agree Celtic loan just yet
Philippe Senderos has revealed he is weighing up his options before deciding on a possible loan deal with Celtic. Chief executive Peter Lawwell is understood to have held talks with the Arsenal centre-back's agent over the weekend as the Parkhead club seek to strengthen their defence. However, the 24-year-old is attracting interest from other major outfits, with Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Everton all linked with his signature. The Swiss international is 'honoured' Celtic are keen on him but cannot yet make a commitment. 'At this moment, I am still an Arsenal player, so they will have the final decision,' said Senderos, who is anxious for regular football to boost his World Cup hopes.Target: Senderos is wanted by a number of clubs 'I am very honoured that a big club like Celtic are interested in me and, personally, a loan deal right now would suit me perfectly. 'But, at present, I am studying a number of different possibilities. There are a few clubs who have expressed interest so, hopefully, it won't be long until something is sorted out.' Senderos, who spent last season on loan at AC Milan, has made just two Carling Cup appearances for Arsene Wenger's side this term. Former Celtic and Switzerland defender Ramon Vega has already given him the lowdown about life in Glasgow and Senderos admits it is an attractive possibility. 'I spoke with Ramon once or twice about his time in Scotland and he really enjoyed it,' he said. 'He had a successful time there and was very positive about the club and the city. 'It's certainly nice to be linked with a move to Celtic but, at this moment, I don't know exactly where I will be going. 'There are a few clubs interested and I will study everything before making a decision.' The Parkhead club are also seeking a striker but sources dismissed reports from Turkey that Darius Vassell, the former Aston Villa player currently with Ankaragucu, was a target. Celtic assistant boss Mark Venus yesterday claimed to know nothing of a possible move for Senderos. New signing: Jos HooiveldJos Hooiveld arrived from AIK Stockholm last week but Gary Caldwell was sold to Wigan. 'I haven't talked with the manager (Tony Mowbray) about Senderos,' said Venus. 'The bottom line is we have lost a centre-half and signed a left-footed centre-half. 'So we probably need a right-footed centre-half, too. We feel we need another centre-half at the moment to help the team.' Boss Mowbray insisted at the weekend that Birmingham City were wasting their time moving for Aiden McGeady after Alex McLeish lined up an £8million raid. However, Venus suggested the winger could yet depart, if the bidding reached a certain level. 'At any club, every footballer has a price, I would suggest,' said Venus. 'So it would be folly of me to sit here and say there is no way Aiden will be leaving. 'But I would suggest it would probably take a lot of money.' Ki Sung Yeung has, meanwhile, been added to Celtic's mounting injury list with an ankle problem. The £2m South Korean midfielder made a promising debut in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Falkirk but is now expected to be out for the rest of the month.
