Brown wants Motherwell job

Caretaker boss Brown won the battle of the new men in charge at Rugby Park as his side romped to a 3-0 win over Jimmy Calderwood's Killie.Former Scotland manager Brown answered an SOS to take charge of the Steelmen on an interim basis following Jim Gannon's sacking last month. This was his first match in full control of team affairs and he immediately halted a run of five successive defeats with the club's first victory since October."We're not looking to hold anyone to ransom," Brown said."If you're genuinely wanted by the club officials and the players and the fans, it would be hard to say no."He added: "The chairman is still cruising his yacht - or somebody's yacht in New Zealand."I believe he's due back next week."We've been told to operate as though we were in the management role."We're not begging for a contract or anything."If they offer us one, we're pleased. If they don't, we can understand."He'll have had 100 applications, I'm sure."Brown was thrilled with the "exceptional" result, which he admitted he did not see coming after a scoreless first half. But a Jim O'Brien double - his first goals since April - and a late third from Lukas Jutkiewicz saw Motherwell cruise home."I actually thought at half-time, 'This is destined to be a draw'," Brown said."It was an even game, to be honest, and we were very fortunate that we got the opening goal."Brown singled out Keith Lasley for praise, the midfielder having fallen out of favour under former boss Jim Gannon."He was in depression," Brown said."In the middle of that park, he was the dominant personality there."Brown also revealed he was confident of holding onto on-loan youngsters John Ruddy and Jutkiewicz, providing parent club Everton do not suffer an injuries in the goalkeeping and forward areas. He added: "We're doing it a month at a time at the moment."O'Brien was delighted to triple his goal tally for the club, saying: "It's really nice to get a double."Calderwood, who was appointed boss at second-bottom Killie until the end of the season on Thursday, refused to be too harsh on his players so soon into his reign. The former Aberdeen and Dunfermline manager said: "I've been in many press conferences when we've drawn games and I would be a lot harsher than I am at the moment."They don't need me bawling and shouting after they've lost a game. I think I normally would at this moment in time."If there's a second time or third time, it might be different."He added: "Obviously that's a game where we gave points away again."I don't want to take anything away from Craigy's team; they thoroughly deserved it."We sat far too deep first half I thought."You can see there's a lack of confidence."It was very vital the first goal, the position we find ourselves in."They got it and they took massive confidence from that. We lost a lot of confidence."In the end, they look like they've won comfortably."Calderwood admitted two days had not been enough time to prepare his side, who have had to train indoors because of the big freeze. He said: "It's very difficult when you've just come in the day before and you're only in the wonderful facility at Toryglen because you can't really do too much tactical-wise - well, virtually nothing."
