New plans for Kirkby town centre soon after Everton FC stadium and Tesco plans discontinued

THE PLAN to build an Everton stadium and Tesco superstore in Kirkby has now been formally discontinued. The club, the supermarket and Knowsley Council had six weeks to appeal against the Government's decision to reject the Destination Kirkby scheme - but allowed the deadline to expire without lodging a challenge.Everton came out almost immediately after the decision in November and said it was moving on and is currently continuing its search for a new home.Today Knowsley Council said it was now working with Tesco on a new plan for Kirkby.Kirkby Residents Action Group (KRAG) today pleaded for the council to involve the local community in the plans from the beginning. It said it feared that without the involvement of community groups like KRAG the new plan could fail like Destination Kirkby.John Fleming of KRAG said: 'Before they draw up plans, let's talk.'We want to have a proper relationship with Tesco.'We know it will bring jobs, but we don't want them dictating everything.'
