Nightmare not over for Roman as flop's Russian return runs into trouble

Homeward bound: Forgotten man Pavlyuchenko is desperate to go back to RussiaRoman Pavlyuchenko's hopes of returning to Russia are mired in difficulties. The Tottenham Hotspur striker's agent denied any knowledge of a reported £10.2million bid by Zenit St Petersburg and Sportsmail understands the Russian club's board and new boss Luciano Spalletti are at loggerheads over whether to push through a deal for the 28-year-old. In contrast, Zenit are expected complete the signing of Russia striker Alexander Kerzhakov from Dynamo Moscow for a bargain £2.7m fee before the end of the week. With no one yet willing to meet Spurs £15m asking price, Pavlyuchenko's former club Spartak Moscow would only be able to get close by spreading payments over several years, which is likely to receive a frosty reception in north London. Lokomotiv Moscow are the other seriously interested party in Pavlyuchenko's home country, but the collapse of a move for Dynamo Kiev midfielder Oleksandr Aliyev has raised doubts about their funds. Pavlyuchenko's failure to clinch a quick return home has alerted clubs in the rest of Europe, but a formal offer has failed to materialise from the reported interest of Galatasaray and the striker would prefer to either play in Russia or England.
