McCarthy hints at striker swoop

McCarthy knows Wolves are short of back-up for Kevin Doyle, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Chris Iwelumo with Andy Keogh and Stefan Maierhofer currently sidelined through injury.McCarthy is also believed to be lining up a second bid for Hull winger Stephen Hunt.Mccarthy admitted: "We've got bids in for players but we can't do any business without someone else's permission."You put bids in and you're reliant on people accepting them or knocking them back."If that's the case, we move on to someone else. But we're still hoping of signing someone."McCarthy added: "Us and how many others have been linked with Beckford? Do you think his agent might be working overtime?"But I would say if Wayne Rooney got injured at Manchester United or Liverpool lost Fernando Torres, or Tottenham lost Jermain Defoe, they would suffer."We would be the same here if we lost Kevin Doyle or Sylvan Ebanks-Blake."Beckford, whose goal dumped Manchester United out of the FA Cup 10 days ago, is also believed to be a target for Newcastle.Hull want to keep hold of Hunt but McCarthy is keen on bringing the 28-year-old former Reading player to Molineux.Aston Villa's out-of-favour midfielder Craig Gardner is also on his radar although no bid has been made for the player who has also been interesting Birmingham.Iwelumo backed McCarthy's bid to bolster his squad and said: "All teams have got to look to strengthen."If you look at Birmingham who got promoted with us, they are flying - but I am sure they will be bringing in players."Everyone has got their targets. It's who can bring them in. I am sure if one player is on one manager's list he is going to be on a few."I think it can make a massive difference to bring in a certain player so I'm sure the gaffer will have his targets."
