Gers 'failure' Rothen eyes Ibrox exit

The Frenchman has been on loan at Ibrox from Paris Saint-Germain since September and is contracted to see out the season with Walter Smith's side.Having failed to hold down a regular slot, Rothen feels unwanted by the Scottish champions and has been left frustrated at being played out of position when called upon. Now it appears the former France international will be on his way back to his homeland as both boss and player seek a January solution to ease the club's wage bill.Rothen told L'Equipe: "I was named best player of the team by the fans. I asked for a talk with the coach, to ask what happens. "He told me the best solution was a departure during the winter transfer market. Why? It remains a big question to me. "I have played eight matches in a Rangers shirt this season, I have been named best match player three times while playing on the right flank and never in my best position."But Rangers have a €35million debt and they have to save money. The first one would be to spare six months on my wages."The former Monaco man admits his spell in Glasgow has not worked out as he had hoped and is confident of putting an end to his nightmare."I must admit my stay in Scotland has been a failure, while I left (PSG) with a lot of ambition. I thought it would be a nice foreign experience. The result is I was completely wrong."I have some contacts, but nothing has been signed so far. Now I just want to find an exciting sporting challenge. I have such desire to play and have fun. "I am just 31 years old and feel very fresh in my mind. I heard I could be a problem on a financial level but it is false. I am keen to make some efforts."He added: "I am under contract with Rangers until (June) 2010, but really want to find another solution." Scottish Premier Winner 2009/10 Win Outright: Rangers 8/15
