West Ham linked with Adrian Mutu

The 30-year-old was sacked by Chelsea in 2004, after testing positive for cocaine, but has since re-ignited his career with Juventus and Fiorentina. And his return to form has caught the attention of West Ham technical director Gianluca Nani. The Mirror claims that, despite Mutu's contract with Fiorentina running until 2012, the player's agent has said that a return to the Premier League in the new year would not be out of the question.  Related ArticlesTottenham 2 West Ham 0Tony Fernandes circling West HamWest Ham 2 Portsmouth 0Zola wants Ancelotti-Mancini aidGianfranco Zola consigned to losing starsTottenham Hotspur v West Ham United: match preview"I cannot rule out the possibility of Mutu leaving in january," his agent Giovanni Becali said. "Mutu needs to recover and play - we will see in January if any offers come in. "Mutu is happy at Fiorentina and has a long term contract that will be respected."Furthermore, in spite of West Ham's well publicised financial worries, Mutu may well be tempted by the Premier League's salary levels in order to help pay off the £14.6 million he was ordered to give Chelsea in compensation for breach of contract. Becali added: "Mutu's main problem is the fine that in one way or another we have to resolve."Should a deal go through, West Ham and Zola will have their hopes pinned on the Romanian, as they go into the new year facing a relegation battle. The club also faces losing big names in January with Stoke manager Tony Pulis understood to be interested in signing Scott Parker in a deal that could be worth £9m.
