St Ledger's move to Boro called off

SEAN ST LEDGER has returned to Preston North End and he is unlikely to be making a permanent transfer back to Middlesbrough. Less than a week ago Gordon Strachan had insisted that the terms of the agreement with Preston meant that the centre-back would make a full-time move on January 1. However, following Lilywhites manager Alan Irvine's insistence on Wednesday that the player would not return to Deepdale, St Ledger is a Preston player again. A Boro statement on Christmas Eve read: "Sean St Ledger has returned to Preston following the conclusion of his 93-day loan." The development comes six days after it was claimed that St Ledger had clashed with Boro boss Gordon Strachan, who was looking to send him back to Preston. The Republic of Ireland international was due to make a £4.5m switch to Teesside in the New Year.
