Bruce makes £8m bid to take Spurs defender Dawson to Sunderland

Solid: Dawson has been in fine formSunderland manager Steve Bruce is confident of completing an £8million deal for Tottenham defender Michael Dawson in January.Bruce is desperate to strengthen his rearguard and is believed to have tabled an offer for the centre-half, according to the London Evening Standard.Harry Redknapp does not want Dawson to leave White Hart Lane but the Spurs boss has been told he must sell before he can buy.West Ham defender Matthew Upson has been heavily linked with a move across London although Redknapp would prefer to offload Roman Pavlyuchenko and David Bentley to raise the funds. However, Russian striker Pavlyuchenko and former Blackburn winger Bentley have not been playing regularly and Redknapp could find it difficult to attract buyers prepared to meet Spurs' valuation.  Dawson, 26, has impressed while Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate have been sidelined but he is aware he could find his opportunities limited when the pair return to action. Moving is unlikely to be a problem for Dawson as he grew up close to Sunderland in Northallerton.  Party is over as Redknapp demands his Spurs players pay £20,000 a manUp and away: England defender Upson admits he may be sold by West HamGomes hails his 'unbelievable' Spurs defence after back-to-back shut-outsSunderland appeal against Michael Turner's red card at Manchester City TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FC
