McAuley: Toon clash can lift us
The Owls are currently trapped in the Championship relegation zone, having taken just two points from their last 10 games.Following Saturday's 2-0 defeat at home to Swansea, McAuley admitted his players were low on confidence, but he expects them to rise to the occasion for the visit of the league leaders.He told the Sheffield Star: "The Newcastle game hopefully will take care of itself; Wednesday have to perform."It's on Sky, there will be thousands of Newcastle fans there and our fans will add to the atmosphere and get behind the team. It will spur everybody on."McAuley's sentiments were echoed by captain Darren Purse, who added: "We proved earlier in the season we can play well and get results. We need that win; hopefully it will come on Boxing Day."
