City may consider increasing their bid to £15m and offering players in return, with Richard Dunne a possibility, but Wenger is likely to resist. That may push City back towards Chelsea's Brazilian Alex while they have also been offered Marco Materazzi from Inter Milan. City left back Michael Ball has been told his contract will not be renewed days after knee surgery that will keep him sidelined for the rest of the season.
