Megson won't be selling prize assets

Centre-back Gary Cahill is currently his most valuable asset and he has already been linked with a number of clubs.Manchester City are the latest rumoured to be interested, with Joleon Lescott ruled out for eight weeks and Kolo Toure departing for the African Nations Cup in January.Cahill has been a revelation in central defence since his £5million signing from Aston Villa in January 2008 but this season has added goals to his game and his five so far represent a career-best haul. The 24-year-old is on the fringe of Fabio Capello's England squad and if he makes it to South Africa his value - and his profile - would undoubtedly shoot up.But Megson said the club would have to receive a bid which "blew other deals out of the water" for him to even consider selling his best players."I'd be very surprised if there were, if not bids, then interest," said Megson of the approaching transfer window."The worrying thing is it doesn't always come to myself, it might go to Phil Gartside (chairman) or Allan Duckworth (chief executive)."We need to make sure we are all singing from the same hymn sheet."There are players here who are, in my view, untouchable. We can't move them on, we wouldn't want to move them on because we want to go forward."Everyone does have their price sometimes but it does have to be a deal which blows other deals out of the water - like Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Real Madrid."From our own point of view we have players here who would have a high value if they were put on the open market."But we have to temper that with what would happen to our football club if we let them go."Megson, however, accepted that there were other members of his squad who would be available for transfer."But there are people who, if the opportunity came, they would want to go and play more football."It is about making the right decisions, in or out."
