Coyle stands up for McCarthy

McCarthy has come under fire from all sides after his decision to field a weakened team against Manchester United in midweek.McCarthy felt it was the right decision to make given the hectic schedule facing his players in the coming weeks. Those crucial games begin with a home fixture against Burnley on Sunday but Coyle refuses to condemn his managerial counterpart and instead reiterated his support for him.Coyle said: "What I do know is that Wolves have an outstanding manager in Mick McCarthy. He has done a fabulous job."Away from football he is a real man's man. I have a lot of time for him as he has helped me. For me (the criticism) was way over the top. I think Mick McCarthy does what's best for Wolves."You only to have to look at the job he has done at the club to know it is under very good stewardship and in very good hands."I think people should look at the big picture and realise what a big part he has played in restoring Wolves to the Premier League."Those players he named (against United) were bona fide first team players. A lot was made of it but Wolves are working like ourselves to try and maintain their Premier League status."We will both want to win the match, of course, but after the game we will sit down and have a chat."Burnley go into the match having taken only one point from a possible 24 on the road and had a punishing draw against Arsenal on Wednesday. That is why Coyle ordered his players to put their feet up and not leave the house yesterday even though it is the festive season. He said: "I stressed to them it was a day of rest. Even though it is Christmas time it wasn't a day for being dragged around the shops with their wives and partners."They had to do the right things like taking the proper fluids, so they are ready to go on Sunday."There are days when you think you can run through a brick wall. There are other days when you are lethargic and you don't want to get out of your bed. We all have that feeling."What we do know is the Premier League is very demanding in each and every game, particularly for ourselves."With snow sweeping Burnley, the players took shelter today and that pleased Coyle, who explained: "It means five-a-side and I am the best indoor player here."
