Alex face a battle to keep Phillips

Alex caretaker boss Dario Gradi has stated he would like to keep the experienced stopper when his loan spell expires at the end of the month.Rovers are expected to grant the 31-year-old a free transfer in the new year but a move to Gresty Road is not a formality, according to the player's agent."Crewe are in with a shout, but not at any cost. If the deal is right, then fine, but if it's not, then it's not," Clive Hart told the Sentinel."Steve has done very well and he has an illustrious CV. We will speak to Crewe at some point and we will also see what else is out there."Earlier in the season, Phillips had an 11-game loan stint at Shrewsbury. The Shropshire club have maintained an interest while Hart revealed several Scottish Premier League sides have also made enquiries.
