Gus frustrated by late leveller

The Buddies were leading 1-0 going into the final three minutes of Satuurday's SPL clash at St Mirren Park after Michael Higdon returned to his former club with one of the goals of the season. But Carl Finnigan snatched a precious point for the Bairns two minutes from time to prevent his side going five points adrift at the foot of the able.Describing the game as "two points dropped", MacPherson said: "It was probably the poorest we've played for the last five or six weeks but we got ourselves into a winning position and to lose it so late on is just frustrating."We've said that against the better teams - the top three or four teams in the league - mistakes at crucial times are costing us."But you don't get any more crucial than the last couple of minutes in a game at home, when you're in that winning position."Falkirk were rewarded for pouring forward in search of an equaliser in the final 10 minutes but MacPherson insists his side should have held out."The supply's come in but we could defend it better once it goes into that area," he said."You think at that stage you should just be able to see the ball out of those areas and defend it."The draw was St Mirren's fifth in eight home games this season as they continue to struggle to record victories in the stadium they moved into in January.MacPherson added: "It's a source of frustration that, yet again, we're drawing at home and you should be able to see the game out."However, the Buddies boss was delighted with Higdon's incredible 35-yard volley which crashed in off the crossbar despite the efforts of Robert Olejnik."Everybody expects Michael just to be a target man, because of his physical presence," MacPherson said."But he's technically a better player than I gave him credit for until I worked with him."But that just shows the quality he's got, that he's used his presence to hold off the defender and then unleash an unstoppable shot."Falkirk boss Eddie May agreed, saying: "I thought it was a great strike, great technique by Michael Higdon. I'd rather praise him than criticise our goalkeeper."It was an excellent goal."We got back into it and asked a few questions."May thought his side had equalised when Pedro Moutinho sneaked up behind Paul Gallacher and robbed him when the keeper was bouncing the ball.Referee Craig Thomson ruled out the goal and May said: "It's still in the goalkeeper's possession. That's what the referee told the fourth official."I can't understand it."They seemed to change the rules a couple of years ago but they didn't tell anybody."MacPherson was adamant Thomson had made the right call, saying: "You're not allowed to interfere with the goalkeeper."For the fourth week in a row, May turned to the veteran Lee Bullen to change the game in the second half today. He said: "Lee Bullen has fantastic for us."Unfortunately, he's 38 years old so he's probably not able to a full game, more like 45 minutes for Lee."He's playing very well, certainly better than he played last season."
