Elliott: Turf Moor is a bear pit

The Cottagers visit on Saturday and 30-year-old Elliott is looking forward to some more home comforts.Sixteen of Burnley's 17 points in the Premier League have come on their own intimidating patch.Elliott said: "It is a cold, noisy ground and a bit of a bear pit at times. The crowd are brilliant and get right behind us."The fans realise what a big part they have to play as well. For whatever reason the atmosphere seems to bring the best out of us."They also realise we are a group of hardworking, honest lads, who go out every week and give their best."We all appreciate being in this league and want to hang around. I do not think any one of us has proved yet we are Premiership players. But we have shown we are capable of competing against the very best."Those early victories (against Manchester United and Everton) gave us a belief. If we had gone a long time without a win maybe we'd have started thinking we were out of our depth."I don't think anyone comes here unaware anymore. They come expecting a tough game and we have to make sure we don't disappoint them."While Burnley's home form compares with the best, they have taken only one point from a possible 24 on the road.Manager Owen Coyle has also seen his side's form dip with only one win achieved in the last seven matches.Elliott, who arrived in the top flight via non-league Bashley and Bournemouth, remains upbeat. He said: "It is a little bit of a blip, that's all. If you step back and look at the bigger picture we are still in a relatively healthy position."It is important we do not get too downhearted. It is a tough league but we have enough faith in our ability. We just need to be a bit more ruthless."Skipper Stephen Caldwell is available to face Fulham after sitting out the defeat by Portsmouth through suspension.On-loan striker David Nugent also comes into contention after he missed the match against his parent club under Premier League rules.Coyle has spoken of his admiration for Fulham counterpart Roy Hodgson as the clubs prepare to meet.Coyle said: "Roy Hodgson is doing a magnificent job and has some quality players to call on. He is a fine example for all aspiring managers like myself."Burnley have lost only once at home in the league, but Coyle added a note of caution."While we are delighted every time we step out at Turf Moor, we will need to play to our maximum to beat Fulham," he said.
