Tottenham's Tom Huddlestone wanted by Martin Jol at Hamburg

De Jong's move will bring in a reported £18 million and, according to the Mail, Jol will have all the cash at his disposal to fill the gap. The former Tottenham manager is a long-term admirer of Huddlestone, and during his time in charge at White Hart Lane drew comparisons between the 22-year-old and Franz Beckenbauer. In recent seasons, however, the midfielder has struggled to secure himself a regular starting place, and under current manager Harry Redknapp comes second to Didier Zokora. Nonetheless, Huddlestone is still highly rated at Tottenham and only last summer signed a new contract keeping him with the club until 2013. His long term commitment could therefore see Hamburg having to meet a substantial price tag if they are genuinely interested. From Redknapp's point of view, selling Huddlestone would create the funds he requires to bolster his squad with some new blood. He is said to be on the verge of completing a £14m deal for Wigan's Wilson Palacios, but must then sell before he can buy anyone else. Tottenham are believed to have tabled a £2m offer for Newcastle No 2 goalkeeper Steve Harper and are also looking to bring Nigel Reo-Coker to White Hart Lane. Redknapp missed out on signing West Ham striker Craig Bellamy after the London club accepted Manchester City's offer and he has also had a bid for Sunderland's Kenwyne Jones rejected. Should Huddlestone stay, the Mail suggests that David Bentley, Darren Bent and Jermaine Jenas have been set aside as potential money-making players.
