Fulham v Blackburn called off as cold weather hits fixtures

Referee Rob Styles deemed a small area of the Craven Cottage pitch was unplayable and decided a postponement was the only option. It means two of today's scheduled Premier League matches are off after this morning's postponement of Portsmouth v Manchester City, due to a frozen pitch at Fratton Park, following overnight temperatures of -7 degrees Celsius. The Football League programme has also been hit hard by the freezing conditions. The third round of the FA Cup was badly affected last weekend and, with temperatures plummeting below -10C in the south this week, the picture is being repeated. Four matches in the Championship have been called off today - promotion-chasing Birmingham's trip to Blackpool, Plymouth's meeting with Crystal Palace, Doncaster v Bristol City and Cardiff's match with Derby. Yeovil's trip to Bristol Rovers is another casualty along with Walsall's match against Brighton, Oldham v Hartlepool and the League Two game between Accrington and Darlington.Matches continued to fall with the League Two games between Grimsby and Morecambe, Shrewsbury and Chester, Chesterfield and Rochdale and Macclesfield and Port Vale the latest to be postponed.
