Luka Modric close to return for Tottenham after successful comeback

The Croatian winger fractured his right fibula against Birmingham City in the Premier League back in August. He was expected to be back in eight weeks but his recovery has taken longer. However, Modric returned to action in a training ground friendly against Grays Athletic on Tuesday. He successfully came through 70 minutes of the 5-2 win against the Blue Square Premier side at Spurs Lodge - the club's Essex training headquarters. Manager Harry Redknapp was an interested spectator and Modric hopes his recovery will soon see him back in action with the first team. Modric said: "I did not feel any pain and that is the most important thing. It is great to be back and I am happy. It is a relief after three months. "I can't wait to play again. The last three months have been hard, but that's behind me now. I will take it step by step and I'll have to see now when the manager decides to put me back in the squad. "We have a great team, a great squad, lots of quality players and that is good for the club. We have plenty of options and that's positive. I hope we can keep it going." Tottenham entertain Wolves at White Hart Lane on Saturday and he could be involved, possible on the bench. On Wednesday they are at home to Manchester City followed by away games at Blackburn and West Ham. In the same friendly, Ledley King gave Spurs a slight scare when he limped out after falling awkwardly, having been hit in the face with the ball. King, who had been sidelined with a hamstring injury and suffers from chronic knee problems, was taken off as a precaution.
