Cherries: Brett's wonder goals are down to happiness

BRETT Pitman has put his rapid climb up Cherries' list of record marksmen down to feeling much happier within the squad. Pitman's double against Macclesfield on Saturday took his career league goal tally to 40 and saw him become joint-18th highest goalscorer in club history. The 21-year-old would have edged ahead of 1960s' star Denis Coughlin had he not seen his seventh-minute penalty saved by Macc goalkeeper Jonny Brain. And Pitman, whose stunning left-foot volley put Cherries on level terms before his second-half header earned them victory, also saw his exquiste lob hit the post. Pitman, who signed a new three-year deal in the summer, is among the leading scorers in League Two having netted 11 times this season, including one in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. It is disappointing to miss penaties but it's all part of football, he told the Daily Echo. I'm sure I'll take the next one. I'd like to say it was a good save but it was obviously a bad penalty because it didn't go in. It wasn't dollied down the middle though. I caught the first one well. But a goal is a goal and it doesn't matter whether they go in from 30 yards or three. I'll take them all. For the header, I remember Wally (Warren Cummings) chesting it. He doesn't often reach the far post with his crosses so I thought I'd gamble across the front! I'm enjoying playing games and playing every week. I feel part of it now more than I ever have before and Eddie looks after me. He has a go when he needs to and puts his arm around me when he needs to. Maybe in the past I haven't had that.
