Dons want MacLean on free transfer

MacLean joined Argyle from Cardiff in January 2008 for a then club-record fee of £500,000 but has fallen out of favour under Paul Sturrock. The 27-year-old has made just four appearances for the Pilgrims this season and has not played in the first team since mid-September.The former Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday player was linked with a move to Pittodrie back in August but it never materialised as Aberdeen could not match his wages. However, McGhee is hopeful a deal can be resurrected and said: "Apparently Steven has been told he can leave Plymouth on a free."But free does not always mean free because he still has a contract and if they don't pay up in full, someone else will have to match what he is currently on."If Plymouth pay him up and allow him to go, then certainly he is a player we would consider."
