Hammers set for New Year hearing

The Hammers were hit with four charges following the Carling Cup tie against Millwall at Upton Park in August, while the Lions face three charges. Both clubs are alleged to have taken insufficient action to stop missile throwing and violent, threatening and racist behaviour. They were given extra time to respond to the charges last month and are understood to have co-operated fully with the ongoing police investigation into the chaotic scenes which surrounded the fixture. As a result, the FA hearing is set to go ahead in January 2010, later than originally planned.West Ham are expected to be handed a heavy fine and could be ordered to play one or more matches behind closed doors as punishment.
