Pardew: Saints weren't good enough

New Brighton manager Gus Poyet watched with some surprise as his new side romped to just their second away win of the season thanks to a first-half brace from Glenn Murray and a late goal from Welsh midfielder Andrew Crofts. But Saints boss Pardew says the defeat - only their second in 14 matches - was not a surprise and acts as a reminder for his side."We just weren't good enough and we were reminded again how tight this league is," Pardew said."You can't come off the gas for even one game because you get punished because teams in this division are so closely matched."But we can have no excuses - we simply weren't good enough."
