Liverpool FC play down new injury fears over Daniel Agger

Daniel AggerLIVERPOOL today allayed fears Daniel Agger is facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines after he withdrew from Denmark's forthcoming internationals. The Reds central defender had been pencilled in by Denmark coach Morten Olsen to play in both their games against South Korea and the United States. However, Agger felt a twinge during the 2-2 draw with Birmingham City on Monday night in the same area of his back that forced him to miss the trip to Fulham last month. After discussions between the Reds and the Danish FA, it was decided Agger would be best served by staying on Merseyside during the break for treatment.Agger missed the start of the season after undergoing surgery on his back but there is no suggestion he is now set to spend a similar period of time on the sidelines.Reds officials believe the break will be beneficial for Agger and provided he responds to treatment as they expect, he should start against Manchester City on November 21.The news concerning Yossi Benayoun and Albert Riera, though, is much more bleak and both midfielders are set for a month on the sidelines after tearing their hamstrings.
