Liverpool FC tops Facebook and Twitter leagues online

* FOLLOW the ECHO's LFC news on Twitter hereLIVERPOOL FC has gone top of the league - but only in cyberspace.The club's huge global fan base has rocketed it to the top of the Facebook table.The Reds' official Facebook page is celebrating crashing through the 1m fans barrier.The website shows LFCTV videos and hosts discussion boards.In a staggering display of the club's popularity, it is thought the site has more fans than the rest of the official Premier League sites put together.In the real world, the Anfield club is sixth in the Premier League, nine points off the pace.Nevertheless, LFC's community manager Matt Owen, who runs the Facebook site, is also toasting another social networking success - the club's Twitter feed has almost three times as many followers as its nearest rivals.More than 55,500 loyal fans catch up with LFC news using the micro-blogging site, which allows users to post messages of up to 140 characters.Elsewhere in the Premier League, Arsenal has around 17,400 followers and Chelsea has more than 17,500.Everton, which tweets at twitter.com/YourEverton, has around 2,100 followers.
