Clayton has yet to make a first-team appearance for City, but was part of the England squad at the recent Under-20 World Cup.He has now been given the chance to build up his experience at Carlisle, with the League One club's manager Greg Abbott expecting the 20-year-old to make an impact."We're really looking forward to working with him," Abbott told the club's official website."He was on the brink of the first team last season but, with the arrival of the likes of Robinho and Gareth Barry, it has become very competitive. "City have been fantastic with us and they see this as an opportunity for their player to come in and help us, by giving us some depth in a key position. "He is very similar to Paul Thirlwell in the way that he plays, and he definitely isn't shy when it comes to putting a tackle in. "He also has a good range of passing, and we think he will fit in nicely with the way that we want to do things."
