It's all pair shaped

It's a question that's often been asked and a succession of Chelsea managers have debated the wisdom of pairing the two big-money strikers up front at the same time. However, Carlo Ancelotti has played them both together in a 4-4-2 formation throughout this season and after watching Chelsea's latest victory, a 4-0 success at Bolton, Soccer Saturday pundit Phil Thompson said the doubters have been silenced by Chelsea's front two.He said Drogba and Anelka have formed a strong partnership and when asked about the key to Saturday's victory he pointed to the intelligent movement of the Chelsea strikers."It was the movement of Drogba and Anelka," he told Soccer Saturday."They were dropping off into midfield areas and they were vacating it and turning and running at people."It was really, really good to see. It was like a chess game at times."They enjoyed it even more in the second half when they had even more space. "It was great."InfluenceGoals from Frank Lampard, Deco, Drogba and a Zat Knight own goal sealed a comfortable victory, while a red card for Bolton defender JLloyd Samuel on the stroke of half time aided the away side's cause. And while Thompson felt the red card was significant, he thought Chelsea were the better team before Bolton were reduced to 10 men."Of course it was going to influence the game," he continued."It was right on half-time, but Chelsea were always the better team. Typical Bolton had a go and got their diagonal balls in and played quite well."But Chelsea were passing it really well, switching the play from one side to the other. Bolton were going one-for-one on all of the midfield players, so they were just switching it all the time."They were very, very good."EndeavourThompson praised Bolton for their endeavour, but said the home side were never in with a chance of winning the game."Bolton did the best they could in this game", he said."I don't think there was much chance. They had a go in the first half and early on in the second half but really they were not at the races against this Chelsea team."
